To start out, you’ll need your leather pieces (whatever project you’re working on or maybe just some scrap to practice on), a Stitching Wheel, Stitching Groover, Sewing Awl, 2 Needles, Waxed Thread and any kind of scissors.
Hand sewing leather is usually done using one thread with two needles. I use waxed thread or sometimes I add bees-wax to un-waxed thread. Waxing the thread prevents it from unravelling while sewing. Continue reading
You will need a total of 4 pieces of leather in 2 different thicknesses (these measurements fit iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S):

Start out by printing out the design you want to transfer to the leather. Moisten the leather using a sponge and let it sit for a few minutes until the surface is soft. You can place the printout on the leather and trace it using a modeler. If you decide to lift the paper to check if it transfers correctly, make sure the whole image is aligned properly when you put it back down!
Note: depending on the type of paper you use, it might tear when you trace it because of the moisture in the leather – so be careful not to apply too much pressure. Continue reading
For the main part of the Kindle case (the front and back) you can use 3.6mm thick leather. Anything that’s thicker than 2.5mm will work fine but an extra mm makes the whole case much more rigid and heavy.
Use a standard A4 sheet of paper as a template – I found that the size works great for the Kindle 3.
